Backset CalculatorTwo questions, about a minute — find the exact mortise for your door

Two questions, about a minute. Keep a tape measure handy.

How to measure the backset, borehole, door thickness and stile width on an Australian door
1Your door

Where is this lock going?

The gate lock suits that better

This is a door lock. For a gate, our SL-G1 has a 34 mm panel made for narrow gate uprights and fingerprint readers on both sides.

2Your measurement

Measure from the faceplate of your existing mortise to the centre of the square spindle hole. What does it read?

Order the 6085 mortise

60 mm backset, 85 mm centres. This is the one most Australian doors take.

Order the 4585 mortise

45 mm backset, 85 mm centres.

Order the 3585 mortise

If your door slides, order the 3585 hook bolt version instead — a straight bolt will not hold on a slider.

Order the 2885 mortise

If your door slides, order the 2885 hook bolt version instead.

You need a hook bolt

A straight bolt has nothing to grip on a sliding door. Measure your backset, then order the hook bolt version of that size — 2885 hook or 3585 hook.

Measure the mortise, not the door

Measure from the faceplate to the centre of the square spindle hole. The sizing guide shows it with a diagram.

Not sure at any point? Open the full sizing guide, or email us a photo of your door edge with a tape measure across it and we will tell you exactly what to order.

Guides and installation

Check the size, then follow the guide

Three numbers decide whether this lever goes on your door: the backset, the door thickness and the stile width. All three are on the drawing. Measure them first, then pick the latch or centres option that matches — the number in the option name is the measurement, not a style.

No published weather rating. The manufacturer does not state an IP rating for this lock. Fit it to an internal door, or to an entry door that sits under an eave, a porch or a roof. If your door takes direct rain, order the SL-G1 instead — it is rated IP66.

Remote unlocking is not included. Bluetooth only out of the box. The G2 gateway is what adds Wi-Fi, remote access and voice control, and it is bought separately.

Measure before you order, not after. The wrong backset is the single most common reason a smart lock will not go on. Two minutes with a tape measure saves a return.

Batteries. Check the packing list for whether cells are included; budget for a set of alkaline AAs either way.

This is not an Australian-certified product line yet. The manufacturer holds CE and FCC marks, which are European and American. Ask us before ordering if you need Australian compliance paperwork for a rental, a strata building or a commercial fit-out.

TTLock app features: controlled access with permanent, temporary and time-limited codes, activity log, remote unlocking and managing multiple locks

Before you buy

Questions people ask about this lock

Fitting and measurement questions in depth live in the sizing guide. How to choose between our five types is in the buying guide.

Will this fit a standard Australian front door?

If your door is hinged, between 35 mm and 55 mm thick, has a 60 mm or 70 mm backset and a stile at least 96 mm wide, yes. Those four numbers are the whole test.

What is a backset and where do I measure it?

It is the distance from the edge of the door to the centre of the round hole the handle sits in. Open the door, measure across the flat face, and you have it. The diagram above shows exactly where.

Can I unlock it when I am not home?

Not on its own — Bluetooth only reaches a few metres. Add the G2 gateway and you can, from anywhere.

Does it work with Apple Home?

No. This lock runs on TTLock, which supports Alexa and Google Assistant through the gateway. There is no Apple Home or Matter support.

What happens if the batteries go flat?

Two things save you: the mechanical key, and the USB-C port on the outside of the lock. Touch a phone power bank to it and the keypad wakes up.

Can I fit it myself?

Most people can. If your existing hole is already 60 mm backset and 50–54 mm across, it is largely a swap. If you are cutting a fresh hole, or the latch mortise needs adjusting, a locksmith will do it quickly.
