Backset CalculatorTwo questions, about a minute — find the exact mortise for your door

Two questions, about a minute. Keep a tape measure handy.

How to measure the backset, borehole, door thickness and stile width on an Australian door
1Your door

Where is this lock going?

The gate lock suits that better

This is a door lock. For a gate, our SL-G1 has a 34 mm panel made for narrow gate uprights and fingerprint readers on both sides.

2Your measurement

Measure from the faceplate of your existing mortise to the centre of the square spindle hole. What does it read?

Order the 6085 mortise

60 mm backset, 85 mm centres. This is the one most Australian doors take.

Order the 4585 mortise

45 mm backset, 85 mm centres.

Order the 3585 mortise

If your door slides, order the 3585 hook bolt version instead — a straight bolt will not hold on a slider.

Order the 2885 mortise

If your door slides, order the 2885 hook bolt version instead.

You need a hook bolt

A straight bolt has nothing to grip on a sliding door. Measure your backset, then order the hook bolt version of that size — 2885 hook or 3585 hook.

Measure the mortise, not the door

Measure from the faceplate to the centre of the square spindle hole. The sizing guide shows it with a diagram.

Guides and installation

Check the size, then follow the guide

This one ships with an adjustable latch that covers both Australian backsets, so the measurement that usually decides everything matters less here. Check the door thickness and the stile width on the drawing before you order.

No weather rating at all. The manufacturer states this lock is not waterproof. Internal doors and sheltered entries only. If your door catches rain, order the SL-G1, which is rated IP66.

It costs more than our Fingerprint & Code model, and it is not better in every way. What you are paying the extra for is the adjustable latch in the box, the higher user count and the twelve-month battery. That model adds a doorbell and more narrow-stile options for less money. Pick on what you actually need.

Remote access needs a gateway, sold separately. Bluetooth only out of the box.

Timber doors. The manufacturer lists wooden doors and room doors. For aluminium-framed, glass or sliding doors, look at the Long Handle and Push/Pull Handle models instead.

CE marked, not Australian certified. Ask us before ordering if you need compliance paperwork for a rental, strata or commercial fit-out.

Tuya app features shown on four phones: video intercom, temporary password, send e-key and remote connection

Before you buy

Questions people ask about this lock

Fitting and measurement questions in depth live in the sizing guide. How to choose between our five types is in the buying guide.

Why is this dearer than the Fingerprint & Code model if it has no doorbell?

Because the adjustable latch is included, so there is no wrong option to order, and because it handles far more users. If neither matters to you, the Fingerprint & Code model is the better value.

Do I still need to measure my door?

Measure the thickness and the stile width. The backset is the one you can stop worrying about — the adjustable latch covers 60 mm and 70 mm.

Tuya or TTLock — which app?

Both are supported. TTLock has the better guest-access tools; Tuya integrates with more smart home devices. Tell us which you want set up.

Can I put it on my front door?

Only if the door is sheltered by an eave, porch or roof. It has no waterproof rating.

How long do the batteries last?

About twelve months of normal household use, and the lock warns you before they run out.
